Patrick Kelly - Marine Mechanic

If you need something fixed, and you don't want to go to the trouble of taking your boat all the way to a marina or hauling it out, then it's time for a mobile marine mechanic. Additionally, if your boat is too old or too analog for other shops to take on, then this may be your next stop. I've made a carrier of sorting out the "hard cases". It's in the name of my company.

About me:

I'm Patrick Kelly, chief mechanic and owner of Dead Horse Powerworks, LLC. I was born and raised in Michigan, and grew up in Benzie and Manistee counties. I've been turning wrenches since I was 12, and I got into boats by repairing Hobie Cats as a summer job, with my uncle, at age 18. I enrolled in the Marine Service Technologies program at Manatee Technical College in Bradenton Florida in 2016, where I continued to work in marine repair throughout that year. I earned my general certification as a Marine Service Technician, which includes "Marine Rigger", "Outboard Engine Technician", "Outboard Engine Diagnostics Technician", "Inboard Gas Engine Technician", "Drive Train Technician" and "Inboard Diesel Technician" certifications, all under the Florida FLDOE framework.

I graduated with honors and won the 2017 "SkillsUSA Marine Service Technology National Championship" extramural contest. I have also earned certifications with Yamaha and Mercury and the American Sailing Association, among others.

I have worked primarily as a marine mechanic since graduating, and in late 2019 I was asked by my instructors to return to Manatee Technical College as an instructor for the same program. I worked there as an instructor for the 2020 and 2021 school years.

In 2022, I returned to Michigan to be closer to my family and return to a simpler life of fixing boats.

I've worked on sail boats, jet skis, pontoon boats, twin big-block cruisers, antique motors, and brand new Yamahas, Mercuries, Evinrudes, Suzukis, etc. Give me a call if you need help.
